Day 1
From Hotel: 10 min → Loro Parque
1. Loro Parque~4 hr
Started as the world's largest parrot collection, Loro Parque has grown into one of Europe's most awarded wildlife parks — gorillas, tigers, chimpanzees, penguins and the largest free-flying parrot show on the planet, across 135,000 m² of tropical garden on the northern tip of Puerto de la Cruz.
Loro Parque — wildlife park
2. Lago Martiánez~2 hr
A complex of seawater lagoon pools and landscaped gardens designed by Canarian artist César Manrique. Five pools, a volcanic island restaurant and lava-rock terraces sit on the Atlantic edge of Puerto de la Cruz — Manrique's most-visited public work and the template for a generation of Canarian architecture.
Lago Martiánez seawater pools
3. Teide~3 hr
Mount Teide is a 3,718-metre stratovolcano — the highest peak in Spain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of extraordinary geological interest: lava fields, pumice plains, basalt spires and endemic flora across 190 km² of volcanic landscape. The cable car ascends to 3,555 metres in eight minutes.
Mount Teide — volcanic peak
Day 2
From Hotel: 1h 5min → Masca
1. Masca~1 hr 30 min
A cluster of whitewashed houses clinging to a ridge in the Teno massif at 650 metres, with steep-sided barrancos dropping to the sea on both sides. One of Tenerife's most photographed villages — the narrow streets, terraced gardens and views towards La Gomera are the draw. The ravine hike descends 7 km to the coast.
Masca Teno mountain village
2. Los Gigantes~1 hr
Sheer basalt cliffs rising 400 to 600 metres vertically from the Atlantic on Tenerife's southwest coast — the most dramatic sea-cliff scenery on the island. The small marina below is the departure point for whale- and dolphin-watching boats and sunset cruises into the shadow of the rock wall.
Los Gigantes — sea cliffs
3. Drago Milenario~1 hr 15 min
A single dragon tree estimated at around 800 years old, standing 17 metres tall with a trunk circumference of 20 metres in the hilltop garden of Icod de los Vinos. The species was sacred to the ancient Guanche people of the Canary Islands, and this specimen is the largest known member of the family still alive.

Day 3
From Hotel: 1h 6min → Siam Park
1. Siam Park~5 hr
A 185,000 m² Thai-themed water park on Tenerife's southwest coast, consistently ranked among the world's best. The Tower of Power is a near-vertical 28-metre slide through a shark tank; the Dragon is a 750-metre family raft ride; the Wave Palace generates 3-metre artificial surf.
Siam Park
Daily 10:00am - 6:00pm
Siam Park — water park
Day 4
From Hotel: 25 min → La Laguna
1. La Laguna~2 hr
San Cristóbal de La Laguna is a UNESCO World Heritage City — Tenerife's original colonial capital and the template for every Spanish settlement that followed in the Americas. The Renaissance Cathedral, the Iglesia de la Concepción and the ochre-and-white merchant palaces lay out five centuries of Atlantic history.
La Laguna — UNESCO colonial city
2. Anaga Rural Park~2 hr
A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve at Tenerife's northeastern tip — one of the last remnants of the subtropical laurisilva forest that once covered southern Europe. Deep ravines, cloud-level ridges above 1,000 metres, and trails through a moss-covered forest that feels unlike anything else in Spain.
Anaga Rural Park biosphere
Day 5
From Hotel: 30 min → Auditorio de Tenerife
1. Auditorio de Tenerife~1 hr
A sweeping white concrete wave designed by Santiago Calatrava, opened in 2003 on the waterfront of Santa Cruz — the architectural symbol of the island, appearing on countless postcards and the 2 euro Canary Islands coin design. The exterior and harbourside terraces are free to walk; a 45-minute guided tour reaches the symphony hall and its 3,835-pipe organ.
Auditorio de Tenerife
2. Plaza de España~45 min
The civic heart of Santa Cruz, inaugurated in 1929 over the demolished ruins of the 16th-century Castillo de San Cristóbal — a fragment of which is still visible under glass at one corner. A tidal lake fills and empties with the ocean tide in front of the Monumento a los Caídos, ringed by the city's grandest colonial-era buildings.
Plaza de España
3. Playa de las Teresitas~2 hr
Tenerife's beaches are dark volcanic sand almost everywhere else on the island — Las Teresitas is the exception, a nearly one-kilometre golden crescent built in the 1970s from sand shipped in from the Sahara. A breakwater dam tames the Atlantic swell into calm, clear water, making this the capital's favourite local escape.
Playa de las Teresitas
Day 6
From Hotel: 46 min → Pyramids of Güímar
1. Pyramids of Güímar~1 hr 30 min
Six rectangular, stepped stone terraces of unclear origin, saved from demolition and turned into an ethnographic park by Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl, who argued they were deliberately built step pyramids akin to those in Mexico and Mesopotamia — a claim most archaeologists dispute, attributing the terraces to agricultural stone-clearing instead.
Pyramids of Güímar stepped stone terraces
2. Basilica of Candelaria~1 hr
The principal Marian shrine of the Canary Islands, built to house the Virgin of Candelaria — a statue the pre-conquest Guanche people found washed ashore and venerated as their own goddess Chaxiraxi before the islands were ever colonised. On the seafront plaza outside stand nine larger-than-life bronze statues of the Guanche menceyes, the island's nine tribal kings at the time of conquest.

Local Tastes
Papas Arrugadas con Mojo
Tenerife's most universal dish — small Canarian potatoes boiled in heavily salted water until the skin wrinkles and a white salt crust forms, served with mojo rojo and mojo verde. Found on every local menu on the island.
Gofio
The defining staple of Canarian cuisine — grain flour roasted before grinding, eaten for millennia by the Guanche and still on every table in Tenerife. Try escaldón: gofio stirred into fish stock until it sets into a thick paste.
Barraquito
Tenerife's layered coffee drink — condensed milk on the bottom, a shot of Licor 43, a double espresso, foamed milk and a sliver of lemon and cinnamon on top. Served unstirred; unique to the Canary Islands.

Worth Knowing

A Mountain That Has Never Finished Cooling

Tenerife sits at the centre of a geometric paradox: a Spanish island with an African latitude, a subtropical coastline pinned beneath a summit that catches snow. Mount Teide, at 3,718 metres the highest peak in Spain, rises from banana plantations and Canarian pine forest to bare volcanic rock in under an hour's drive. Almost nowhere else can you stand in a cloud forest in the morning and be under desert sun by noon — or watch the shadow of the volcano fall across the clouds below you and realise you are looking at the world from inside a weather system.

The island carries the weight of the Atlantic on its back. The Guanche — the Berber-speaking people who lived here before the Spanish conquest — are absorbed now, but the landscape still speaks their logic: the dragon tree at Icod, older than any European settlement on the island, was sacred to them for its bleeding red resin, and the ridge village of Masca still looks more like North Africa than Castile. La Laguna, the colonial capital, was built as the template for every Spanish city that followed in the Americas — its grid, its central plaza, its civic scale — which means that every time you walk its streets you are walking through the blueprint of a continent.
