🌊 Two Oceans, One Afternoon
The Cape Peninsula is popularly sold as the place "where two oceans meet" — but the Atlantic and Indian Ocean actually mix much farther east, off Cape Agulhas. What Cape Point really offers is something quieter and just as strange: standing on one cliff, the cold Benguela current runs up the Atlantic side, and on the other, the warmer Agulhas current runs up the False Bay side — close enough to feel the temperature shift in the wind on your face within a few hundred metres.
Robben Island's most striking room is not Nelson Mandela's cell but the lime quarry where he and other prisoners worked, breaking rock in glare so intense it damaged many prisoners' eyesight permanently. A single small cairn of stones now marks the spot — placed there in 1995 by former prisoners returning for a reunion, each dropping one stone, an unplanned memorial that the museum has left exactly as it was made.
