🍮 Local Tastes
Butterbeer
The Wizarding World's signature drink — a butterscotch-and-shortbread cream soda invented for Universal Orlando and poured cold, frozen or hot. Orlando is where it was first served anywhere on Earth.
Dole Whip
Pineapple soft-serve with a cult following, a Disney-parks tradition for decades — the Magic Kingdom's Adventureland stand is its most famous home. Order it as a float, swirled into pineapple juice.
Cuban Sandwich
Florida's pressed classic — roast pork, ham, Swiss, pickles and mustard on toasted Cuban bread. Orlando's large Cuban and Puerto Rican communities keep the standard high far beyond Tampa and Miami.
Key Lime Pie
Florida's official state pie — tart key-lime custard in a graham crust under hand-whipped cream. Orlando's scratch bakeries squeeze fresh limes daily.
Gator Bites
Fried alligator tail nuggets — a Central Florida swamp-country staple, mildly sweet and best with a squeeze of lime and remoulade. Eat them yards away the real thing at Gatorland.

🍊 Citrus Notes

This trip spans the two bookends of American theme-park design. Magic Kingdom perfected the hub-and-spoke — one castle, six lands, every sightline managed. Epic Universe is the first ground-up rethink in a generation: its hub is a garden, and its lands hide behind portals, invisible until you step through. Walking both in 48 hours is a masterclass in how the craft evolved across half a century.

The hotel's neighborhood is named for Philip Phillips, the citrus baron whose groves once covered these hills. His company pioneered flash pasteurization, which made orange juice drinkable year-round and put Florida citrus on every American breakfast table. Restaurant Row now grows on his old grove land — which feels like a fair trade.
