Bwindi is home to roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorilla population across four habituated gorilla families open to trekking groups. At elevations between 1,160 and 2,607 m, the park also shelters 347 bird species — more than any other forest in East Africa — plus chimpanzees, l'Hoest's monkeys, and forest elephants.
